Neurodivergence and the family of God – Tony Payne & Kate Morris

2026 P&A Annual Conference – Elective Session 1.

In this session, Tony Payne and Kate Morris consider neurodivergence within the family of God.
They begin by offering a theological framework—reflecting on creation, fall, and redemption—and how these shape our understanding of difference, weakness, and grace. From there, they explore the lived experience of neurodivergent individuals and families, highlighting both the challenges they face and the ways churches can respond with wisdom and care.

The session also considers the life of the church as a household—marked by welcome, burden-bearing, and mutual service—and what it means to include, support, and learn from one another in our differences.

This is a call for churches to think carefully and act faithfully—loving one another as Christ has loved us, and building communities where all can belong and be strengthened in him.
